Artist's Statement
In their bold interpretation of function my pots reflect a passionate interest in the interdependence between ceramics, food and people. From the symbolism of bread and wine to the sophistication of nouvelle cuisine, the act of coming together to share a meal can serve to mediate a rich variety of relationships, be they personal, social, professional or spiritual. Our dining rituals both reflect our continuously evolving social values, as well as direct the proceedings in which tableware plays a vital role. As a ceramicist I seek to identify my part in this creative continuum. I make exotic, luxurious, serving dishes for the special occasions in our lives, the times when we rise above our daily grind, leave behind the mundane and pedestrian, and allow beauty, friendship, and conviviality full reign. Provoking thought and surprise and providing exciting possibilities for presenting food, these sumptuous vessels engage the user’s imagination while adorning the dinner table. As a focus for action and attention they help to facilitate interaction among the dining companions and heighten the shared aesthetic and sensual pleasure of the participants.

Exotic Porcelain decorative and serving dishes Technical Information
I mix 2% paper fibre in Limoges Porcelain and manipulate it while very wet, as if forming with velvet, allowing it to create soft folds as I ‘sew’ thrown and slab-built components together to create flowing forms. Feet and handles are often pulled separately and added on at ‘leather-hard’ stage. I biscuit fire slowly (22-24 hours) to 1000c. A transparent glaze is thickly applied and fluid coloured glazes are then strategically brushed onto it. During the glaze firing (1260c, oxidation) the pots are suspended above the kiln shelf using wadding clay or ceramic blanket, and balanced over porcelain setters. The glazes run into each other, pool in the folds of clay, drip off feet and edges, and so, accentuate the sense of overflowing plenty. History and Background
I was born in Israel and having completed a BA in History of Art and English Literature at the Hebrew University, came to England to study ceramics.
