Artists Statement

I make individual handbuilt ceramics - coiling, pinching or pressings.
Handbuilding allows me time to think as I go, pushing the clay just a little further,
coaxing it towards the form I wish to achieve.
Having to wait for the clay to dry enough before carrying on gives the feeling of mutual effort,
an alliance.
You cannot rush.
Using an electric kiln, I fire at different temperatures depending on the effects I desire.
Glazing, often only an internal affair.
Different polishing techniques on the outer surface allows something of the clays
texture to remain, hopefully encouraging a tactile response.
I like to work with themes, exploring ideas and words, endeavouring to give solidity to an idea.
